The Historic Blanton House

This historic home was built by Jesse Jenkins and his wife prior to 1870. The house was a white single-story bungalow-style cottage with a stable, horses, and cows in the backyard. The front porch was unique with scalloped Victorian trim and round, tapered columns. Other nineteenth century residents were H.D. Lee, A.B. Suttle, and Will Damron along with their families.

Around the turn of the century, the home was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. George Blanton, Sr. Several additions were made to the house by the Blanton family, including a sun parlor and sleeping porch. In 1928, they remodeled the home to a brick veneer Colonial Revival style home with a second floor added, as well as a spacious tile veranda across the front and side with Georgian columns. In 1981, the home was given by the children of George Blanton, Sr. to Gardner-Webb University, and it served as the University president's home. Subsequently, the residence was used as a place for meetings and gatherings for the University.

In 2019, Caulder & Valentine Law Firm was honored to purchase this historic home. From the spring of 2019 through the spring of 2020, this home, so rich in history, experienced a remarkable transformation. The law partners, family, friends, staff, and craftsmen worked together to restore and renovate the historic building. This home is located in the uptown Shelby Historic District, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

In March 2020, the law firm moved from its original office on East Marion Street to this flagship location. As the latest steward of the stately, historic Blanton House, Caulder & Valentine Law firm looks forward to serving the legal needs of our community with excellence, dedication, and integrity.
